Peter Silva is a trade union leader. She completed her higher education at the Buddhist Ladies’ College, Columbo. After acting in several street plays, she finally entered the film industry. Her acting career started in 1975 through acting in street dramas. Later, she joined Dhamma Jagoda’s theatre school. She learnt acting in Ranga Shilpa Shalika from the late Gamini Haththotuwegama, who is still considered the father of street theatre in Sri Lanka. Before gaining the opportunities to establish her foot in Sinhala film industry, she worked in several teledrama serials including Ammai Thaththai, Doo Daruwo, Hathpana, Lokke Mama, Abuddassa Kolama, Thanradevi in early 1990s.
