The 2nd Filmfare Awards happened in the year 1955. The notable 5th Prime Minister of India, Morarji Desai was part of this glitzy event. Lalitha, Ragini and Padmini or better known as the Travancore Sisters also performed. The first Music Director awardee, went backstage to congratulate the late music composer, S. D. Burman who won the Best Music Director Award at that time for the song, ‘Jaye to Jaye Kahan’, which was used in the film, Taxi Driver.

Meena Kumari nailed the Best Actress Award once again for her brilliant performance in the 1953 Bollywood film, Parineeta. She stated that her second award will be placed in her drawing room as a reminder of how the people appreciate her acting. The director of the film, who also won the same award in the 1st Filmfare award got the Best Director Award for two consecutive years.

Bollywood actor and producer, won the Best Actor Award for doing the role of Nimai Vishvambar in the devotional biopic Hindi film, Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in 1954. The film Boot Polish won the Best Film Award; this is under the production of . Besides nailing the best film award, or best known as David who played as John, a bootlegger in the film got the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. The cinematographer of the same film, Tara Dutt also won the Best Cinematographer Award. The late Hindi and Marathi actress, won the Best Supporting Actress Award for her dazzling performance in Dev Anand’s starrer film, Baadbaan in 1954.

Aside from the added categories such as Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress in the 2nd Filmfare Award, the Technical Award for Best Sound was also given to R. Kaushik for the black and white Bollywood film, Amar, under the production and direction of Mehbook Khan.
