Love is a wonderful thing. Everybody would have fallen head-over-heels for someone and felt that unconditional love. But does this always have a happy ending? ‘Kadhalil Vizhunthen’ is one such story of a boy and a girl. Will they end up together? Or does fate have other plans for them?

Plot

Nakul plays Sabha, a guy whose childhood is that of sadness and neglect. His mother died when he was young, and his father, an alcoholic never took care of him. He grows up loving football and fast bikes, typical guy stuff. In college, he meets Meera (Sunaina) and falls in love with her, but cannot and will not tell her because of the difference in their respective financial statuses. Somehow, he musters the courage to tell her, and to his surprise she accepts. He decides to propose her after his football match. When he comes back after a football match, he finds out that Meera has died. He spirals out of control and has a psychotic breakdown. What happens next? Watch the movie to find out.

Analysis

‘Kadhalil Vizhunthen’ is a nice romantic thriller. The story is fairly formulaic: The guy meets the girl, they fall in love, they sing songs about their love, the bad guy makes an entry, the girl dies, the bad guy and the hero fight, and the hero kills the bad guy. The interesting thing about the movie is the treatment by P.V. Prasad. He never makes the movie boring. An essential factor of what makes the movie work is the great music by Vijay Anthony. A romantic movie without a good soundtrack is like a dish without salt. The soundtrack is perfect. The editing could’ve been better, though.

Star Performances

Nakul does an amazing job. This is just his second Tamil feature, after 2003’s ‘Boys.’ His scenes with Sunaina are charming, and their chemistry is breezy. He also shines in the action sequences and dance numbers. The supporting cast doesn’t have much to do, but they do a good job as well.

What’s there?

1. An outstanding act by Nakul.

2. A refreshing take of a simple plot.

3. The music, led by the immensely popular ‘Nakka Mukka.”

What’s not there?

1. Lack of an original idea.

2. The movie is a too long- running at over 3 hours.

Verdict

Overall, ‘Kadhalil Vizhunthen’ is a movie that presents a clichéd theme in a fresh way. Debutant P.V. Prasad knows how to make the script work. Great job by a first-time director. ‘Kadhalil Vizhunthen’ also gives us a talented young actor in Nakul who sure has a bright future in Cinema.
