Plot

The narrative revolves around an old farmer who is fond of agriculture and soil. He plows the land happily used by his family for many generations. The government forces the farmer to get a bank loan to use his land for cultivation. Things fall apart when the farmer doesn't pay back the interest due to the unfavorable farming situation. The drinking corporation even tries to buy that land using false allegations. The farmer's youngest son has no interest in agriculture and works at a software company in a town. The eldest son supports the farmer, but he suggests using pesticides, but the farmer doesn't like his son's idea. What will happen next? Will he save his land from bad people?

Star Performance

Appukutty’s hilarious performance makes the audience laugh aloud throughout the film. Vishwa, Haneefa, and Karate Raja have given their overall finest and enthusiastic performances.

Analysis

N.P. Ismail directed this movie to emphasize the importance of traditional farming and the hurdles traditional farmers encounter from time to time. The director has chosen the name of the film I.R.8 due to the high yield of that rice variety during high famine conditions. In this film, the farmer made a choice that was against by other farmers. We get enthralled by the fact that he is always against artificial fertilizers and pesticides, no matter how low the yield is. This film conveys a powerful message to the audience by evoking awareness toward agriculture using visual styles. The cinematography should have been made better, especially in prominent scenes. Among many films with lavish productions and a huge budget, this film is worth watching at least once.
