Malayalam Movie Review 9 - Cast & Crew

Supriya Menon was a journalist working for the BBC. She was born in a Malayalam household in Palakkad in 1985, and her parents are Vijayakumar Menon and Padmini Vijayakumar. She completed her schooling in Mumbai. Supriya was graduated from a reputed college for Journalism in London. In 2007, she got a job at BBC. Though she is a Malayali by birth, Supriya did not know much about Malayalam cinema except for “Mohanlal” and “Mammootty.” Srinivasan Jain, the NDTV editor, gave her the assignment to cover Malayalam cinema. As she was asked to interview the young generation Mollywood actors, her friend helped her get the phone number of one of the leading actors of Malayalam cinema, Prithviraj Sukumaran. After a few meetings, their friendship turned into love, and Prithviraj tied the knot with Supriya on 25th April 2011 in a low-key ceremony. After getting married, Supriya left the job and settled in Kerala with Prithviraj. In 2014, they welcomed their daughter, Alankrita Menon Prithviraj.

This effervescent beauty, who has acted in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films, is indeed a name to reckon with. This is not only due to her acting prowess, but also for her determination in battling cancer. Only recently, she opened up that she is very much alive in the industry; she is currently working in the flick Two Countries. 

Born on 14 November 1984, Mamta grew up in Bahrain. After doing her schooling in Bahrain she did her degree in Bangalore. Mamta tested waters in modeling before entering into the film industry. She got herself associated with print ads for big names. The 2005 Malayalam flick Mayookham by Hariharan was her first film. Though the film didn’t set the cash registers ringing Mamta was noticed for her performance. Later she ventured into Telugu, Tamil and Kannada films. Bus Conductor, Madhuchandralekha, Baba Kalyani, Sivappathigaram, Yamadonga, Victory, King and Chintakayala Ravi are some of the hit flicks of Mamta. 

Mamta possesses commendable knowledge in Tamil, English and Malayalam languages. Hence language didn’t prove to be an obstacle for her acting in films. Mamta is attuned in classical and Hindustani music. Mamta is also an acclaimed singer. Also, she is excited to ride her bike on the roads. In fact, she aspired to be a motorbike racer. She associated herself with Kochi International Fashion Week as a brand ambassador. Also, she was CCL’s Kerala Strikers’ Brand Ambassador during 2013. Mamta, who battled cancer, had to remove her hair, but she took it jovially. In fact, she never revealed about the disease to anyone till 2010. She was that sportive. 

Mamta was wedded to Prajith Padmanabhan on 2011, but they wanted to part ways on 2012. Swimming and basketball are the other passions of Mamta, apart from singing. Mamta has some awards to her credit for both her singing and acting prowess.

Wamiqa Gabbi is an Indian actress and a dancer. She started her career with dancing. She is a trained Kathak dancer. She participated in a Dance reality show which was judged by famous Bollywood actor Amir Khan. She was one of the top 5 finalists. During this Dance Reality show, she was noted and then she was given a role in the Bollywood movie Jab We Met starring famous Bollywood actors, Shahid Kapoor, and Kareena Kapoor. However, she was offered only a small role in the film.

Anne Amie is an Indian-Singer. She is born and brought up in Kerala, India. Her career started by singing the beautiful song, named as ‘Ethu Meghamari’ of the movie Kocchavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelo. In the year 2019, she gets the award for the Best Playback Singer Female, and the award is named as the 'Movie Street Award'. In the year 2019, she gets the award for the Best Duet, and the award is named as ‘Mazhavil Mango Music Award’. Harris Desom is an Indian Film Producer/Production controller who has worked primarily in the Malayalam Film Industry. He was born on 26th October 1977 in Kochi, India. He has a brother (Asaf Desom) and a sister (Fiza Zainu). He went to St. Sebestian's High school in Kanjoor and later pursued B.sc. From M.G. University. He is at present married and has two kids (a daughter and a son). He has worked in a variety of fields, including Service Engineer at Speed Computers. He then later switched his profession as a production executive of Malayalam Movies such as Haram, Thira Vikramaditya, Ayaalum Njanum Thammil, Diamond Necklace, Spanish Masala, Doubles.

Shaan Rahman is a widely recognized personality in the Indian film Industry due to his various talents. He is an Indian music composer, cinematographer, and singer who has worked extensively in the Malayalam film industry. He has given a lot of commendable works which are acclaimed by superiors till now. His notable credits include Malarvaadi Arts Club (2010), Thattathin Marayathu (2014), and Ormayundo Ee Mukham (2014). He was born on 30 December 1979, in Ras AL Kaima, UAE, to a well-do family. He was brought up in Thalassery, Kannur district, Kerala, by his parents. His father works in a Union Cement Company (UCC), and his mother is a full-time housewife. Also, he has a younger sister named Sherry, a doctor, and his brother, Shaheer is studying B.A. Visual Effects at ICAT.

Sekhar Menon was born on 5th June 1984 (age 32). He was born in Kochi, Kerala, India. He has a degree in Sound Engineering from Chennai. He is a disc jockey and an actor principally working in Malayalam. Sekhar Menon has performed at over 500 times, mostly in Kochi. In 2012, he made his debut movie “Aashiq Abu”, “Da Thadiya” as the lead actor. Sekhar married Maya on 16th January 2008. He has a daughter born on June 2013. In 2001, Sekhar started playing as a disc jockey (DJ) in a small pub called “Formula 1.” It was Shekhar’s first permanent job as a Disk Jockey. He had been an enthusiastic fan of funk, hip-hop, house, soul and R&B, genres that weren’t very popular commercially, since 1998. It was not easy to acquire music, yet Sekhar did his preparation. He has played at all the clubs in the city and is currently at Ava Lounge (Dream Hotel). Sekhar has earlier worked with “Aashiq Abu” in his offbeat blockbuster “Salt N Pepper”, for which he did the official remix of rock band Avial’s track “Aana kallan”.

In the Indian film industry, A. V. Gokuldas works as a production designer (Art Director). Three times he has won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Production Design. He received international acclaim for his work in Kammatipaadam. He has established himself as the state's most renowned art director throughout the years. Gokuldas was born in Kerala and went to Ambalapuram School and Aryampadam Sarvodaya High School for his education. He earned his bachelor's degree in fine arts from the Thrissur College of Fine Arts. After completing his fine arts diploma at the Government College of Fine Arts in Thrissur, he was offered the opportunity to do the art direction for R. Sarath's film Sayahnam, which earned him his first Kerala State Award Best Art Direction in 2000. Before pursuing a career as an art director, he began assisting well-known art directors Sabu Cyril and Sunil Babu for a few more years to get experience in the field.

Sameera Saneesh is a South Indian costume designer and fashion designer who works in the Malayalam film industry. She was born on 27th June 1983. She is well known for designing costumes of Mammootty, Jayasurya, Prithviraj Sukumaran and other stars. Sameera hails from Eroor village of Ernakulam district in Kerala. Her parents are Ibrahim and Jameela. She married a software engineer named Saneesh K. J. on 26th November 2006. She learned drawing and painting from Kalabhavan Kochi during her school years. Sameera did an under graduation course at Bharat Mata College before joining a Fashion Designing diploma at the Nation Institute for Fashion Designing in Panampilly Nagar. After diploma, she worked as an in-house designer for “Raymonds” for some time before becoming a freelance costume designer for ad-films. Her first projects were the advertisements for “Saundarya Silk”. She rose to prominence due to her work in Seemas.

Prithviraj Sukumaran is one among the bubbly actor of South India. This young charming man hailed from Kerala, the God’s own country. He was born in the year 1982 to Sukumaran and Mallika Sukumaran. Their family is entirely a cinema family, where his mother is an actress, his brother Indrajith Sukumaran and sister in law Poornima Indrajith are also actors. At a young age of 19, Prithviraj Sukumaran entered the Malayalam film industry as a charming hero. Nandhanam is his debut movie; the movies Stop Violence and Nakshathra Kannulla Rajakumaran Avannundoru Rajakumari got released before his debut movie. Prithvi is acting in various Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies and quenching his acting thirst. He entered Tamil film industry as a villain through Kana Kanden with Srikanth as the male lead. After the success of this film, he performed with Saranya Bhagyaraj in Paarijaatham. He has given multiple hits in Malayalam and Tamil movies including Swapna Koodu, Pokkiri Raja, Anwar, Urumi, Celluloid, Mozhi, Ninaithaale Inikkum, Raavanan, Kaaviya Thalaivan and much more. He got the best actor award from the Government of Kerala for the film Celluloid, in which he performed as J. C. Daniel, the pioneer of Malayalam cinema, who hailed from Tamilnadu. He is the producer of Urumi, Indian Rupee, Kadal Kadannoru Mathukkutty, Sapthamashree Thaskaraha, Double Barrel and Ennu Ninte Moideen. He has also sung a song Kanne Kanne, in the film Puthiya Mukham.

Abinandhan Ramanujam is an Indian cinematographer working in Malayalam and Hindi movies. Abinandhan was born in Chennai. He is graduated from L.V. Prasad Film and TV Academy and is a gold medalist from there. He later did a course in visual communication from GRD College, in Coimbatore. Since childhood Abinandhan was interested in photography. His father Ramanujam was a bank officer, who always encouraged him in his work. His father owned an old Yashica camera; he would practice his photography skills, and his father would monitor it as well give guidance on his photography. In school and college days, Abinandhan was very active and had participated in many filmmaking competitions. He used to keep himself busy with some or the other work which was related to filming.

Janus Mohammed Majeed is an Indian, Malayalam entertainer, director, and producer and the son of veteran film director Kamaluddin Majeed. He made his directorial debut with the Malayalam Movie ‘100 Days of Love’. His approach to entertainment is different. He sees the reality with a shadowed overlay which helps him portray the cruel reality with a touch of extra flair. He carves out a simple story into a masterpiece with his skills of film making. He might be a newbie, but one should not take this as his weakness. He is the freshness that was required in this industry. He gives a flair to the contemporary Mollywood industry. 

Shameer Muhammed is an Indian film proofreader transcendently working in Malayalam film. He was a former student of Chethana Media Institute, Thrissur. He functioned as a spot manager in a few films and his presentation as a free proofreader was Charlie. Shameer Muhammed began his vocation as an editorial manager for promotion movies and collections. At that point, he moved to Tamil film industry and have functioned as a right hand to grant-winning film editorial manager late Kishor Te. He began working in Malayalam movie industry as a spot manager of the Grandmaster film, coordinated by B. Unnikrishnan.

Sreejith Guruvayoor is an Indian film and celebrity Makeup Artist. He works in Mollywood. His Makeup Studio ‘Sreejith Guruvayoor Bridal Factory’ is in Guruvayur, Thrissur. He directed a cricket- based short film named ‘Innings’ in 2015. He has worked in many Malayalam movies like Traffic (2011), God for Sale (2013), Vegam (2014), Apothecary (2014), Varsham (2014), Pedithondan (2014), and many more.

Truly, the father-son duo create magic on Mollywood Cinema. His father's signature style of presenting everyday people on celluloid along with his charisma of taping the young generation, has made him the favorite amongst cinema-goers. He is an MBA degree holder and an alumnus of GRD College and London Film School. He entered the holy matrimony with his fashion designer girlfriend Zulfa.

Harib Hussain is an Indian playback singer who worked for the Malayalam film industry. He worked in many movies, including 9, Johny Johny Yes Appa, and My Story. 9 was a fantasy, horror, and sci-fic film which hit the theatres on 22nd February 2019. Jenuse Mohammed worked as both the director and writer of the movie, while the lead cast includes Prithviraj Sukumaran,

He hails from a Tulu and Kannada-speaking household and is fluent in various other languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu. He also has an actor brother named Prasad Raj. He studied at St. Joseph’s Boy’s School, and subsequently, at St. Joseph’s College of Commerce. Both institutions are in Bangalore. Prakash has three children, Meghana, Pooja, and Sidhu, from his earlier marriage to the actress Lalitha Kumari. His son, unfortunately, passed away in the year 2004. He is currently married to the choreographer Pony Verma. In the first few years of his career, he worked in Kannada Doordarshan, doing serials like Guddada Bhootha, and he also acted in supporting roles in Kannada movies like Nishkarsha.
