Gods of Egypt revolves around Gods and human beings in Egypt of the 24th century. The director of the movie had to express an apology for majorly featuring a white cast in the film. Now, let’s see how the movie has turned out to be.

Plot

Gerald Butler plays Set, the God of Darkness, and he gains control of a dynasty from his nephew Horus played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau  This is shown through open dual of sword fighting between the duos in an amphitheater. Initially, Gerald’s idea was to kill his nephew but eventually he gives up when Elodie Young, a Goddess, pleads him not to do so. Thus, Butler expels the blind Waldau to a different place and the latter is being freed from it by Brenton Thwaites.  Thwaites is a meticulous thief who has his own share of tragedy. His sweetheart had passed away due to being beaten by an arrow. Thwaites takes the responsibility of her final verdict. As per tradition the ruler of Egypt only can do this. What is the significance of this act? What does Butler do here? What is the significance of the Sun God in the movie? Watch the movie to find out.

Star Performances

Butler speaks with his Scottish accent throughout the movie and is quite ok. Chadwick Boseman Chadwick Boseman, whose official name is Chadwick >> Read More... as Thoth tries to give the film the much-needed comic element.   Courtney Eaton Courtney Eaton is an Australian model and a famous >> Read More... and Brenton Thwaites have a good screen presence, and their characters are impressive.

Analysis

Alex Proyas, the director of the movie (of The Crow fame), has a well-conceived idea. He has smartly used the swords, and that gives the much-needed visual appeal for a film of this genre. Well, one thing that is striking is that the characters in the movie have queer names like Set, Ra, Bek, etc. The sets also give a distinction to the film. Having said that.,however, there are two stories in the film, and they seem not to interconnect.

What’s there?

  • Being an action adventure film, the movie has a good premise.
  • Though the movie is interspersed with a lot of violence, the effect is not totally gruesome.

What’s not there?

  • The action sequences are repetitive.
  • The movie is in the dearth of logic sometimes.
  • You tend to get a feeling that you are watching the movie for a long time.
  • The CGI is not up to the standard.

Verdict

If you forgive the flaws and just watch the movie as to know how the Gods of Egypt of the ancient times are depicted, then you can give it a try.
