The Martian

During a mission to Mars, a team of astronauts have to abort their mission as they are hit by an intense storm. While evacuation, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is left behind and presumed dead by his crew after he is hit by a debris.

The next Mars mission won’t be scheduled for next 3 years. Till then he has to live on the hostile planet with the available meager supplies which would not last for more than a year. Hence, he has to find a way to make water and grow food to survive on the planet where nothing grows. He even manages to. Back on earth, the Mars mission director finds out that Watney is still alive after a satellite survey of Mars. So, a rescue mission is planned and attempted by his crew and NASA to get him back to Earth.

The film is based on the fictional novel ‘The Martian’ by Andy Weir. However, the ending differs to that of the book. Matt Damon has gracefully adapted to the role of Watney, which makes The Martian an entertaining movie with a mix of thrill, fun, and humor. He is shown to be an optimistic guy who isn’t going to let his situation dampen his spirits. Also, the movie is the most realistic science fiction film of the decade, which does manage to collaborate science, engineering, and technology in an effective way. A Mars Rover model was built exclusively for this movie Overall, it is a great sci-fi movie, which shouldn’t be missed as it manages well to please the audience.
