This Musical Drama, Starring Hugh Jackman

This musical drama, starring Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried, Anne Hathaway, and many more is based in 18th century France, after the French Revolution in around 1815, when a king returns to the throne. Soldiers singing their plights, rains pouring, horses galloping; all of it creates an ancient historic feel.

A girl is crying in the rain, and her song tells the story behind this abandoned girl Causette (Amanda). “On my own” are the words of the song; she says that she loves a man who doesn’t love her back, so she loves him on her own. This man most probably is Eddie Redmayne, who can be seen taking a fond interest in Amanda. Russell Crowe can be seen in the uniform of a French official cop. With catapults and grenades blowing, the French mini flags flaring, children running, it gives a lot to think over.

The film is a wonderful melodious, theatrical musical drama. The intensity, the aura that this film created, actually brings you back into the past and allows you to live the world in which the characters reside. This indeed, is one of director Tom Hooper’s finest works.
