American Ultra is an action-comedy film starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart in lead roles. It depicts the story of Mike Howell who is a stoner and his girlfriend, Phoebe Larson. The film is loosely based on the MKUltra project. The trailer is fast-paced and is a perfect blend of the genre the film is representing, action-comedy. The humorous tone perfectly complements the heart-racing story. It deals with extremely controversial topics but smartly moves away from controversies by employing a humorous tone. The racy scenes keep the plot obscure.
The action scenes are executed perfectly.The film revolves around the game two high-placed CIA operatives play with the lives of Mike and Phoebe, albeit in a humorous tone. The question is; Is Mike Howell the hero or the villain of the story? American Ultra received poor box office collections. The critics had mixed reviews. They felt that the movie had some interesting ideas but failed to reach its true potential.
