Plot
A group of friends gather around a playground, to play cricket on a typical Sunday. Little do they know what this day has in store for all of them.
Star Performances
The director, the actors, and the screenplay are the main highlights of this film
The way director Suraj has captured the essence of gully cricket, and how youngsters are involved with any sport, is just great.
Since most of the cast is fresh, it is nice to see the raw emotions on display. The young actors are the biggest strength of this film.
Analysis
‘Ground’ almost lives up to its name. The movie’s plot revolves around the favorite pastime of a few youngsters, and how the entry of a rival group changes it. Most of the narrative happens in a single day.
The film’s biggest USP is its fresh narrative. Jaheer Basha, who is both the lead cinematographer and the editor, sees to it that the narrative does not stretch endlessly. A runtime of less than 1 hour and 45 minutes. Some of the sequences almost remind some movie-buffs of a 2016 film, ‘Tu Hai Mera Sunday’. While the plot was different, the camaraderie and the sporting spirit were almost the same.
The cast for this film is fresh. While a few experienced actors would have worked, the narrative more than made up for it. If you are not a fan of such films, you can choose to skip it. However, if you are in for a narrative, that is innovative, and engaging, do not miss this film.
This film does not make any tall promises. The screenplay by Vijay Gattu is decent. There are a few romantic sequences as well. However, they don’t interrupt the smooth flow of the narrative.
The film is not completely flawless, though. There are many moments where you find the narrative completely bland and soulless. In some places, you will even find sequences boring. However, if you’re willing to invest your time in this movie, such flaws are few that could be ignored in the larger scheme of things. The acting performances in this film more than make up for the few flaws, if any

Verdict
‘Ground’ is one of those rare attempts at a fresh, out-of-the-blue narrative regarding the youth. The screenplay doesn’t make tall promises but leaves you with a smile at the end of this film. This film may not be flawless, but the narrative, as well as the acting performances by the ensemble cast more than make up for it. Watch this if you have a taste for unconventional dramas.        Â
