The great director of horror films, Niel Marshall, directed the film The Reckoning; this movie was produced by Daniel Kornard Cooper, Michael Marks, Steffen Wild & Esther Turan. Bondlt Media Capital and Fourth Culture Films distribute the movie. The movie’s cinematography is done by Luke Bryant Luke Bryant is an on-screen character, known for N >> Read More... . The music in the movie is directed by Christopher Drake. The film plots Charlotte Kirk, Joe Anderson, Steven Waddington and Sean Pertwee.

Plot

In the movie, a woman named Grace Haverstock is wrongfully accused of being a witch just after losing her husband in the Great Plague, who hanged himself after getting affected by the plague. The woman is then handed over to England’s most vicious witch hunter, Judge Moorcroft. The woman is then forced to go under great mental and physical torture while steadfastly preserving her innocence when the devil starts to infiltrate her body. Here, Grace has to resist her inner demon.

Star Performance

The actress Kirk captures Grace’s vulnerability gracefully, depicting emotional depth and physically demanding performance as needed in the movie. Kirk brings depth to Grace making it a compelling character, by taking the character travel from the phase of terror to open refusal to obey somebody or something. The way she plays her role is unquestionable, even though the scenes are a bit intense and disturbing, as her scenes are full of torture, suffering and fighting.

Analysis

The film doesn’t understand the natural phenomenon even though it portrays the witch hunt era and superstition. The era depicted by unreasonable assumptions and fear, which prompt the unjust prosecution of innocent people, is nicely depicted in the movie. The medieval era in the movie is nicely depicted, giving a sense of dread and gloom. The movie is a bit foreseeable as it is similar to other horror stories. The graphic content in the movie is nicely portrayed.

What’s There?

  • The film focuses on the experiences of the incriminated rather than the prosecutors, which ultimately gives a unique perspective on the witch hunt era.
  • The cinematography and production design of the film add remarkably to the striking visuals of the movie.

What’s Not There?

  • It can be seen that the film has taken some liberties in portraying the dramatic effects as the movie lacks some historical accuracies.
  • The roles of the supporting characters were underdeveloped even after portraying the role of the lead as strong.
  • The placement in the movie is a bit uneven as some sections in the movie are shown in a slow and rushed manner.

Verdict

The movie is impressive in its demonstration, even after being similar to other horror stories. The movie must be applauded for depicting the accused’s perception and difficulties. Overall, it’s a bleak historical horror movie that delivers disturbing tales.
