As a young scriptural film maker, director Kate S. Logan initially set out on a venture to document the good reforms Christian schools were implementing in today’s society. What she found; however, in an evangelical reform School in the Dominican Republic was quite the contrary. There was something far more ominous happening behind ‘The Walls of God’.

Kidnapped for Christ provides an unparalleled peek into what happens inside the walls of a Christian reform school. Logan was provided unrestricted access throughout the shooting of the film, and conducted copious interviews with both teachers and children.

On starting the documentary, Logan felt that the conditions these kids were being subjected to weren’t ethical. Through her comprehensive interviews with children, she stumbled on the irrefutable fact, that this wasn’t the correct way to carry out God’s work.

The focus of the film is on a young man named David, who was flown to the school without any previous knowledge or consent. He wasn’t given the chance to bid goodbye to his friends. Why did David’s parents suddenly decide to tear him from his bed during the night and send him to Escuela Scribe? Was he underperforming in school? Did he get involved in substance abuse? Actually, he was a righteous Christian who never even thought of abusing drugs or alcohol, and had a GPA of 4.5 in school. The reason he was sent to this evangelical school, was because he’s gay.

Made on a low budget, this movie goes far beyond its financial scriptures, delivering compelling information, which this film has in spades.

Kidnapped for Christ is an enthralling, heart rendering, thrilling documentary that makes us question moral and religious practices.
