Broken Star Click to look into! >> Read More... is a thriller movie released back in July 2018, directed by Dave Schwep and written by David Brant.

“Broken Star” is a creepy and thrilling low budget movie that was ambitious and captivating. It was produced by Howard Barish, Cinematography by Tyler Maddox, and Edited by Kelly McCoy. The movie music is from Josh Peck Joshua Michael Peck, who is also known as Josh Pec >> Read More... and Donny Dykowsky.

Plot

The story revolves around an actress starlet Markey Marlowe whose career falls in jeopardy after one unfortunate event.

Abandoned by her friends and family, Markey is sentenced to house arrest with a suspicious landlord.

The story further talks about the twisted relationship formed between the two during this time.

Star Performance

The cast stars Lio Lipton as Markey who delivers a fantastic performance of an angry, ego-maniastic actress obsessed over being remembered forever.

Tyler Labine does an excellent job at portraying the psychotic stalker, Daryl, who is the landlord of the residence.

Analysis

The film moves pretty fast due to its short running time, and that is why some scenes in the movie feel rushed.

After the home arrest, Marley arrives at her new residence to discover that it was inhabited by an old woman who died recently, and her grandson Daryl was living on the other side of the wall. In the rest of the movie, we can see how Marley goes to nightclubs and cuts herself for pleasure, clearly portraying the title “Broken Star,” which was the result of her strict schedule and her destructive personality.

The movie’s mystery revolves around a small door at the house leading to an attic where Marley hears footsteps, which were stretched a bit too long to the point where it stopped giving the sense of mystery to it.

The film becomes too predictable with its plot, which ruins the thriller aspect of the movie. The film mostly focuses on the stalker, Daryl, recording Marley’s every move while we see Marley portraying her twisted personality and the formation of a complicated relationship between the two.

What’s There?

  • Voyeurism
  • Thrilling aspects
  • Brilliant Portrayal of Characters

What’s Not There?

  • Lack of Enough Screentime
  • No Meaningful character development

Verdict

The movie “Broken Star” is a fast-paced, ambitious, creepy thriller movie on a low budget that fails to achieve its goals. While the actors manage to capture your eyes in some scenes, for the most part, it doesn’t do what it’s set out to do as the story takes sudden sharp turns and fails to wrap around the plot itself.

Overall, “Broken Star” is a decent film that begins to take shape in the first half of the film but ultimately loses the viewers due to its inability to hold on to the story progression. This inconsistency leaves the viewers scratching their heads.
