Sydney Chandrasekara was born on 15 January 1959. He was a Sri Lankan journalist, lyricist, director, and a prominent media personality. He was one of the iconic figures of Sri Lankan media. Chandrasekara has contributed to several television programs over a career spanning more than four decades. He was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He completed his education at Ananda College, Colombo. Sydney Chandrasekara died on 14 November 2020, at sixty one, after being taken to the hospital for a routine checkup. He is a senior reporter, television plan maker, and writer who labored comprehensively in Sri Lankan media.

After school, he joined Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and was mentored by the pioneer of Sri Lankan dubbing, Titus Thotawatte. Then, he collaborated with Thotawatte and was jumbled in dubbing plans such as Malgudi Dawasa, Rasara, and then Athru Pelassa, Sri Lanka's first live creature show. Then, he was assigned as a producer in the stage show of the Rupavahini Corporation. Later, in 1992, he became the director of the TV show Nidikumba, the first drama serial in Sri Lanka to be made using several cameras in a studio.

Ninety percent of the serial was shot inside SLRC, becoming the first-ever studio production of a teledrama at that time. After resigning from Rupavahini, he joined Swarnavahini, where he assisted as the Deputy Plan Director and First Director of the News Channel Live at Eight News Division. During his period, he made the morning show Swarnodaya and then became the concept creator for the Live at Eight News Division. Then, he joined Sirasa TV for News First as an adviser.
