Samitha Mudunkotuwa is a Sri Lankan playback singer, songwriter, actor, and entrepreneur born on 7 January 1973 in Horana, Sri Lanka. She is famous for her romantic and emotional songs. Samitha was born into a musician family. Her father is Premadasa Mudunkotuwa, a professional classical singer whereas her mother is Kumari Bothota works at the Sri Lankan Broadcasting Corporation as a folk singer. She did schooling in her hometown and went to Buddhist Ladies College for higher education and later completed her music and dancing education from Piyasara Shilpadhipathy.
Samitha started her musical career in 1988 by debuting in her first cassette titled "Ira Paya" with famous musician Rohana Weersinghe, then launched two other albums titled Kolompure and Rosa Mal Mawatha. In 1995 she released her CD album titled “Muthu Kumari” and others like Adara Aulanga (1998), Pem Pwasa (2001), and Sansaranya (2002). As an actor, she appeared in many Sri Lankan series and movies like Ganga and Nishanka, Mudiyanse Mama, Dala Rela Pela, etc. She won many awards and medals for both singing and acting. On 13 February 2020, her daughter launched a new song called "Thurulu Wenna Da” Her career as a singer and actor has been very fulfilling.
