Nilmini Buwaneka is a well-known actress, dancer, and choreographer from Sri Lanka Cinema. She was born and grew up in Sri Lanka. She trained in dancing at Bhatkhande Music Institute and earned a Diploma in Bharat Natyam. She also works at the International School, Drama and Theatre School. Nilmini has worked in various noncommercial plays and theatre such as Makarakshaya – The Dragon, Hena – Thunder, Loka, Don Diyego, Thatu, Seru, Weeraya Merila, Devadasi (Sinhala and English), Ayeth Anne ne - Widows, Dasa Mallige Bangalawa, Doll’s House, Mother Courage, Death of a Salesman, Manoramya Gee, Sihina Dakinna, Julius Caesar, House of Bernada Alba, Reality Show).

She has also acted as a lead and supporting role in the cinema. Her notable films are Bawa Duka, Bawa Karma, Boradiya Pokuna, Sam’s Story, Ekamath eka Rataka, Bindu, and Bahuchithawadiya. She has also worked as an assistant director with Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, a Director. She got a lot of appreciation for directing the stage plays performed by the children who have Down’s syndrome. In 2004, she received the Best Actress Award in a leading role from the State Drama Award Festival for Dasa Mallige Bangalawa.In 2008, she won the Best Actress Award in a Supporting Role from the Sumathi Tele Drama Award Festival for the TV serial Sudheera.
