Sinhala Actress Avanthi Aponsu

Avanthi Aponsu, also known as Goniya Malimage Avanthi Aponsu, was born on June 18, 1959. She is a famous Sri Lankan actress known for her extensive work in supporting roles in teledramas, films, and stage plays. She lived with her mother, two younger sisters, and two younger brothers in the Magasthota village area of Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. During this time her father and brother, Jayasekara had moved to Colombo. Her uncle, Edwin Peiris, was a stage play director in Nuwara Eliya, who was acquainted with Rohana Weerasinghe.

Her elder brother is Jayasekara Aponsu, a prominent Sri Lankan actor and director. She attended school at Gamini Central College in Nuwara Eliya. It had been her dream to act but struggled since she was extremely shy growing up. Hence, she pursued nursing. After she completed her studies and relocated to Colombo in 1979, she decided to pursue her passion for acting. Her journey of acting began in stage plays in 1983, under the tutorship of her brother Jayasekara, she practiced for six months and made her stage debut with Jayantha Ketagoda. Aponsu's brothers and sisters, including Jayasekara Aponsu, Gamini Aponsu, and Nirmada Aponsu, are famous actors too.

One of her famous roles was in 2017, Avanthi Aponsu starred alongside Jackson Anthony, Dilhani Ekanayake, Kusum Renu, Roshan Pilapitiya, Thisuri Yuwanika, and Kumara Thirimadura in Cheyyar Ravi's Dharmayuddhaya. The movie is an official remake of Jeethu Josephs's Malayalam movie, Drishyam (2013). In the year 1983, Avanthi won the Best Actress Award in Natya Sammana. Later on in life, she married Yagath Jayasuriya. Aponsu had a daughter, Kavya Jayasuriya, who was born on May 22, 1992.

Avanti went on to establish her presence in the film industry dedicating herself to fine work. Her life work began with stage dramas such as Helidarawwa (1983), Dala (1996), Seru (2000) and Patale Soldaduwo (2002). Her cinematic journey of diversity and refining talent went into serials such as Ithin Eeta Passe [2008], Gajamuthu [2009], Mini Kirana Story soon >> Read More... [2019], Induwari [2020], Walakulu Dorin Galanna [2020], Kunchanadha [2021] and Vacation [2023]. Her unwavering dedication and passion continued in films like Thunhiri Mal (1983), Dadayama (1984), Podi Ralahamy (1984), Batti (1984), Birinda (1984), Adarayaka Mahima (1985), Varsity Kella (1985), Podi Vijay (1987), Ayoma (1995), Rae Rae (1999), Mouse (2016), Paththini (2016) and Dharmayuddhaya (2017). Her contributions serve as proof of passion to the art of theatre and leaving behind her legacy in the world of cinema.
