Datta Korgaonkar or as he was more popularly known, K Datta was born on the 4th of July 1908. Born in Kokan, Datta Korgaonkar spent his childhood in Girgaon, in South Bombay. He came from a musical family where his mother would sing bhajans and from listening to his mother, he became interested in music. He would run a music association with his friend, Sadavshic Nevrekar.

In 1938, He worked on his first music composition for the film, Chandrarao More which was in Marathi. After making his presence felt in the industry, His next venture was Mera Haq in 1939 which was a film shot both in Hindi and Marathi. Later on in his career, he started a partnership with Noorhejan, a singer-actress for whom he composed seven songs for her to render because he was mesmerized by her voice and style of singing. Their pairing made their mark on movies like Zameen, Maharathi Karna and Badi Maa. 

In his career, K Dutta composed music for 17 Hindi films and 12 Marathi films. Though usually an independent composer. He would hold pujas once a week where many composers and people from the industry attended them. In 1978, Datta Korgaonkar died on the 23rd of December due to complications with the heart.
