Mushtaq Bala is a filmmaker in the Indian film industry. Mushtaq went to DAV Higher Secondary School in Magarmal Bagh, Srinagar. He graduated from Amar Singh College in Srinagar.
He is the Media Visionary Chairman of the Kashmir Film Society and the President of the Kashmir Artists Welfare Foundation, and also the President of the J&K Film Makers Cooperative Society. Mushtaq is the Governing Board Member at Jammu & Kashmir Cultural Centre and also a member of the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association in Mumbai.
Mushtaq is one of the pioneers of the Kashmir TV and movie industry. He produced serials, movies, docudramas, documentaries, and public service programming. Mushtaq produced 143 episodes of Yeh Zindagi Hai Gulshan. He also produced Bandhan for Prasar Bharati. Hans Andersen Ki Kahaniyan and Grimm Brothers for DD National is one of his production ventures. Some of his thematic works are Shrines of Kashmir, Aks Aks, Reshem Reshem, Naya Dour, Lion Safari, Economic Pillars of Kashmir, Crocodile Conservation, Light of Life, Creative Handloom, Wonder World of Birds, Prawn Cultivation, State Botanical Garden, Science with Fun, Animal Husbandry, and A Better Tomorrow.
In 2001, he was honoured with the Bharat Jyoti Award. In 2002, Mushtaq was awarded the Shakir & Aslam Memorial Award. In 2003, he received the National Achievement Award. In 2008, Mushtaq was honoured with the Ozone Green Award. In 2012 and 2014, Mushtaq was awarded the J&K State Award-JKAACL. In 2012, he received the Genova Film & Poetry Festival Award. In 2017, Mushtaq received the Ustad Ghulam Mohammad Saaznawaz Academy Award. In 2018, he was honoured with the Mumbai International Film Festival Award. In 2023, Mushtaq received the Kundan Lal Saigal Award. In 2024, he was honoured with the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Memorial Award and in 2025, he received the Kashmir World Film Festival.
