Shri Pran Kishore Kaul,born on 23rd January, 1925, in Srinagar, Kashmir, attended the University of Punjab. (Lahore). Pran Kishore is one of Kashmir's finest novelists. Pran Kishore Kaul is recognized for creating the Doordarshan television series Gul Gulshan Gulfaam in 1991. He's a seasoned novelist, a prolific dramatist, a stage director, a remarkable broadcaster, and an undiscovered painter among his followers. Shri Pran Kishore Kaul began his acting career in 1943 at the SP College Dramatic Club and later became the secretary of the two major dramatic clubs. He played the protagonist in Neelam, a drama based on the classic Roopmati Baz Bahadur by famed Urdu writer Abid Ali Abid. He also appeared in Imtiaz Ali Taj's Anarkali and Mahmood Hashmi's Tiksha Rakhshita.

The dramatic wing of this organization, led by Pran Kishore, contributed significantly to the literary traditions of Kashmiri literature by producing Prem Nath Pardesi's Kashmir Yehi Hai, Play 3/4, Dollar Sahab, Batahar, Shaheed Shervani, and Sawal, as well as Dina Nath Nadim's Naya Kashmir Ki Rah Par and Bombur Ta Yamberzal (A Kashmiri Opera).

For nearly 30 years, Shri Pran Kishore Kaul has worked for All India Radio, adding spice to our rich Kashmiri Literature by writing and producing many plays and documentaries in Kashmiri, Urdu, Hindi, and English.

Considering his self-motivation and dedication as an actor, broadcaster, and writer, he is regarded as The Ulysses of the Odyssey of our Theatre Movement, steering the race by sharpening their skill to perfect their efforts. As a perfectionist, he has invented and recreated several conventional modules to boost radio artists by instilling an inventive vigor in them, which has elevated Radio Kashmir to the pinnacle of quality among its competitors in the country. His films Aur Vitasta Bahti Rahi and Aab Ta Hayat won the Akashvani Annual Award for Drama and the Akashvani Annual Award for Features, respectively. The latter was All India Radio's submission to PRIXITALIA, the most prestigious international radio and television festival, where Pran Kishore served on the radio jury.

In 1965, his debut feature film as a filmmaker, Mainz-Raat in Kashmiri, got the President's Silver Medal for best regional cinema. His participation in Balraj Sahni's feature film Shair-e-Kashmir Mehjoor is noteworthy because he directed it in Kashmiri. He won the Sahitya Academy Award for his novel Sheen Ta Vatapod, an essential contribution to Kashmiri literature. Prof. Shauq considers his novel Gul Gulshan Gulfam to be the prose epic, or Mahaakaaviya, of modern Kashmir. This story spans three generations of post-independence Kashmir, illustrating changes in values and standards yet never disregarding the constants in the flux of Kashmiri identity.

He is also the author of Kashmiri Theatre History, Radio Kashmir and My Days in Broadcasting, Santosh in Search of Truth and Translation, and Shafi Shauq of Gul Gulshan Gulfam. In 1974 and 1980 he was awarded with Robe of Honour by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art and Culture and Languages and The University of Kashmir in for his contribution to Theatre and Playwriting besides his impact on Urdu Drama. The President of India bestowed Padma Shri on him in 2018. He also received the Government of J&K's 2009 Highest State Award for his promotion and commitment to art and literature. Shri Pran Kishore had the honor of serving on the jury of the National Institute of Television and Film's Indo-African short film festival. He also led and directed the Indian delegation to the 12th Asian Arts Festival in Hong Kong in 1988.

Shri Pran Kishore is described as an iconic personality of J & K in the domains of culture, broadcasting, film, and literature by Ashok Jailkhani, Additional Director General, Prasar Bharti Broadcasting Corporation of India. Shri Pran Kishore, according to Ashok Jailkhani, is a highly respected and revered individual who has mentored and motivated hundreds of artists, notably in the discipline of play and radio. Adding that Pran Kishore joined Radio Kashmir (later a part of All India Radio) at its start in 1947-1948, he quickly established himself as the country's top broadcaster. He's also a talented painter, and his works have been shown in national and international shows, including the Lalit Kala Academy. He is still going strong at the age of 93, and it is critical that such a living icon be recorded and that his experiences, ideas, and vision be shared with a bigger audience.
