Neerja is an Indian Playback singer. She sings for the Hindi films and TV series. She was born on December 20, 1966. She started her career in 1981. She received an MA degree in music from Chandigarh University. She also learned music from gurus like Shri Bhajan Sopori, Shri Shambhu Senji, and Shri Shambhunath Sapori. She was married to social activist and filmmaker Ashoka Pandit in 1988. She has sung for ‘Mukammal,’ ‘Gul Gulshan Gulfam,’ ‘Shapath,’ ‘Noorjehan,’ ‘Mast Mast Hai Zindagi,’ ‘Film Chakkar,’ and many more. Neerja is also associated with Kashmiri Folk music. She made albums like ‘Cheshma bu Wondai,’ ‘Kashmiri Club mix,’ and others.
Pandit Bhajan Sopori, an Indian musician, was born in Srinagar on 22nd June 1948. He specialized in playing Santoor and belonged to a family of Santoor experts. He belonged to the Sufiana Gharana of Indian classical music and gave his first public performance at the age of 5 in 1953. He was the grandson of Pandit Shankar Pandit, who is credited with the development of the ‘Sufi Baaj’ style based on Sufiana Qalam and Hindustani Classical music.
