Gurdial Singh Rahi (10th January 1933 – 16th August 2016) was an Indian novelist and writer who used to write Punjabi stories, short stories, novels, etc. he began his literary career in 1957 and published the short story "Bhaganwale." In 1964, he became a well-known novelist and published the novel Marhi Da Deeva. This novel was then adopted by the Pubjabi Film director, Surinder Singh. Surinder Singh converted the novel into a film. He worked on the making of another novel, Anhe Ghore Da Daan. The novel was then adopted by film celebrities and was converted into a film of the same name. Gurdial Singh Rahi was honoured with a Padma Shri Award in 1998 and a Jnanpith Award in 1999.
