Uttara Baokar is an Indian stage, television and film actress. She played prominent roles in a number of notable plays like Padmavati in Mukhyamantri, the Mena in the Mena Gujari, a mother’s role in the Girish Karnad’s Tughlaq and leading role of Umrao in “Umrao Jaan”. She was born on May 17th 1916 in Sangoli, Maharashtra,  and started her career on Marathi stage.

Subsequently, he earned his diploma in drama at the Living Theatre Academy in Delhi, under the guidance of the prominent theatre director and drama teacher, Ebrahim Alkazi. He was featured in plays like Dance Like a Man and Dinner with Friends. In 2006, Joy won the National Award for Best Actor in Theatre for his performance as Mahatma Gandhi the popular stage play, Sammy, which was directed by Lillette Dubey.
