R. Nagendra Rao is an Indian director who worked for the Kannada film industry. He was born on 23rd June 1896 in Holalkere, Mysore. He was also an actor, producer, screenwriter, and occasional composer. Rao is known to be one of the most influential personalities in the South Indian film industry. He began his career at the age of 8 when he started playing as an actor in theatre, performing in different plays. Rao gained some popularity while working with A.V Varadacharya's Ratnavali Drama Company and Chamundeshwari Company in Mysore.

2. Ajoy Kar

Ajoy Kar was a known Indian cinematographer and film director. He is also popularly known as the Father of the back projection in Bengali cinema. To pursue his career as a professional photographer, Ajoy left college. Later, he picked up cinematography. In 1935, he graduated as an assistant photographer. He became a chief photographer at Indrapuri Studios in 1938. As a cinematographer, he debuted in Charu Roy’s Pathik in 1939. As an independent director, he debuted in 1951 in Jighansa. In his career as a director, he directed 26 films. One of his films, Saptapadi, was nominated for the 3rd Moscow International Film Festival. His movie, named Malyadan, won the National Film Award for the Best Feature Film in Bengali in 1981. He has shot some of the most memorable films in the history of Bengali films.

3. Mohan Bhavnani

Mohan Bhavnani was an Indian director. His full name is Mohan Dayaram Bhavnani. He was born in 1903 in Hyderabad, Sind, British India, which is now in Pakistan. Mohan studied at the College of Technology, Manchester, in 1921-21. Then he pursued film-making in Germany at UFA in 1924. His wife’s name was Enakshi Rama Rao, an actress and acted in the film Shiraz in 1928. He started his career with an association with Kohinoor Film Company. He started his career with films like Cinema Ki Rani in 1925, Veer Bala in 1925, Bhamto Bhoot in 1926, and Pagal Premi in 1926. His early films focused on creating Sulochana, a star.

Brajen Baruah was an Indian director and actor. He was born in 1925 and was popularly known for ‘Dr Bezbarua.’ His other significant movies include ‘Mukuta,’ ‘Sito Bahuto,’ ‘Opaja Sonor Mati,’ and ‘Lalita.’ His younger brothers, ‘Nip Baruah’ and ‘Ramen Baruah’, are also known director and composer respectively. Tapan Sinha, one of the foremost Indian directors of his time was born on 2nd October 1924 and died on 15th January. 2009.He formed the legendary quartet with Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, and Mrinal Sen. Mehboob Khan was a pioneer producer-director of Hindi cinema. He shot to international fame by making social epic ‘Mother India’ (1957) which was a nominee for the Academy Award for the Best Foreign film. He signed Nargis for the role of a suffering mother when she was just 26 years old, but the script required Nargis to perform a much -matured role on the screen.
