Plot

Sakthivel comes from a particular village with a particular caste. An aspiring filmmaker by choice, he falls in love with a schoolteacher Kavitha, who belongs to a different caste, and waits for the success of his film project, following which the two will marry. When the two villages oppose their match, they elope. However, little do they realize what mayhem will their impulsive decision cause.

Star Performances

The technical department was the only team that was remotely serious about their job. If not for them, the film was only a whisker away from being a complete trainwreck.

Analysis

Romantic stories are the staple diet of Indian cinema. As such, when it comes to love between two different communities, there are bound to be comparisons. However, ‘Arimapatti Sakthivel’ is a bit different. It aims to be an eye opener on inter-caste marriages, but ends up being a poor man’s ‘Sairaat’.

The film talks about two people, who fall in love but are from different villages, and above all, hail from different castes. The narrative begins on a simple note but soon loses focus midway.

In a bid to attract the commercial masses, the film goes literally over the top. Some sequences are not only bizarre but will make you laugh your heart out, despite the intent being completely otherwise. No, we are simply not making this up. ‘Arimapatti Sakthivel’ tries to show the ground reality, but instead, it becomes a boring lecture on the ills of casteism. It could have been something as riveting as ‘Paava Kadhaigal’, but the execution was far from it. In many places, you will be irritated by the preachy attitude displayed by the makers. The direction by Ramesh Kandhasamy is far from being decent, let alone impressive.

The acting performances are also not legendary. Pavan K and Meghnaa Ellen attempt their best, but their performances don’t make up for the mess created by the screenplay. The only two actors who make a futile effort to save an already sinking film are Imman Annachi and Charle.
