This film is about the love romance between King Edward VIII and American divorcee, Wallis Simpson. Along with this, there is one more contemporary romance between the married women and a Russian security guard. Directed by Madonna, the film was panned by the critiques. This movie rotates around the two fragile, but determined women, and how they were apart for more than six decades.

Wally is highly obsessed with the love story of King Edward VIII (James D’Archy) and travels to the estate of Duke. As she has no friends, she is usually day dreaming, and in her day dream, she auctioned the Sotheby collection on Wallis and Edward.

Edward throws a party where he met Wallis. They develop a mutual attraction, in spite the fact that Wallis is married. This story of Edward attracts the attention of Wally many times. Going back to the King’s story, Edward and Wallis continue their love affair when they go on a tour of Europe. After a good bond, Edward decides to introduce Wallis to his parents, King George V ( James Fox The full name of James Fox is William James Fox. H >> Read More... ) and Queen Mary (Judy Parfitt). Unfortunately, Edward’s sister portrayed Wallis in a wrong light.

In the parallel story of Wally, she insists her husband about having a baby, but her doctor husband does not want to. Wally tries another way, like in vitro fertilization to become pregnant. Wally found herself attracted towards Evgeni and started dating him. William was suspecting this, so he hits Wally and leaves her on the floor.

After their date, when Evgeni tries calling Wally but she didn’t pick up. Evgeni runs towards Wally’s house, brings her to his home, and consults with a nurse. Wally finds herself alive as she is reborn. She now has hope for her life. She falls in love with Evgeni and divorces William.

ANALYSIS:

The movie has a good inbound message, but seems messy regarding projection. The two parallel running stories will make you confused in some parts. The story of two women- Wallis, a divorcee who is forever an outcast from British nobility because of her damaging association with Edward, and other is Wally, a brooding socialite in a modern world. The story of King Edward and Wallis will engage you, but the current story somewhat is less enthralling.

STAR PERFORMANCES:

Abbie Cornish played her character well. She did justice to her character in the film. Rest of the cast played their role quite well, but the fragility performance of the stars was missing.

WHAT’S THERE?

This movie has drama, adorable costumes, and locations for shoot, which seem authentic according to the plot, especially the sequences of Edward and Wallis.

WHAT’S NOT THERE?

Connection between the two parallel running stories is missing. Edward and Wallis’ story is overpowering the other, i.e. Wally and William’s story.

VERDICT:

Madonna tried hard to make the whole movie authentic, but left the things near the finishing line.
