B. Vasantha

B. Vasantha (born 29 March 1944) is an Indian female classical and playback singer. She is an eminent musical figure, especially in the Malayalam music industry. Throughout her long career, she has won the hearts of listeners through her mellifluous singing and continues to do so. She was born to Smt Boddupalli Kanaka Durga and Shri Boddupalli Ravindranath in the city of Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh. She was raised with five siblings and was the eldest among them. She was influenced by music from a very young age owing to her family's artistic background. Her father was a musician, painter, and photographer while her mother was an accomplished Vainika. B.Vasantha is a versatile singer who sang over 4,000 songs in various Indian languages such as Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tulu, Sinhala, etc.

Through her father's contacts in the music industry, she was met with numerous experiences that seared her to be the icon that she is today. At the mere age of ten, she sang a devotional song for the prime minister at the time- Jawaharlal Nehru during an inauguration ceremony and eventually started attracting attention. She signed her first song 'Aasai vantha pinne…' which was a duet with K.J.Yeshudas with whom she has then created numerous Malayali songs. She marked her solo debut by signing her first Malayali film 'Muthalali '. She is the recipient of many awards including 'Kalaimamani ' which is the highest civilian award in the state of Tamil Nadu and the 'G Devarajan Shakthigadha Award' which was presented to her by Kerala's former health minister K.K.
