The film tells the story of Will Allen and also shows the footage Allen recorded as the videographer when he was a member of the cult. The film was produced and directed by Will Allen himself. He also assisted in the editing and cinematography of Holy Hell.
Plot
Holy hell tells the experience of Will Allen as a member of a cult formed by Michael Rostand in the 1980s. Will Allen recounts being forced to leave home at the young age of 22 by his mother after graduating from college because of him coming out as gay. His sister, who was attending a meditation at the time invited him to join the group. The group was led by the founder, Michael Rostand, and was called Buddhafield. Michael Rostand was born Jaime Gomez in a wealthy family and he had come to Hollywood with a dream of getting fame. Will Allen became a videographer and editor for the group and documented the group. The film also includes new interviews with the former cult member. Will Allen eventually left the cult after 22 years in 2007.
