Elangbam Indu, also known as Heisnam Ongbi, was born in Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai, in Imphal, Manipur. Elangbam is one of the cited woman actors of Manipuri theatre who efficaciously prospered in Manipuri Cinema. At the age of 12 years, she acted in a play at her school for the first time. She was born in 1949. Elangbam started her career as a child actor before joining the Manipur Artist Touring Drama Party in the 1960s.

She was associated with popular theatre groups like Rupmahal and Aryan theatre. She had not only been in more than a hundred plays over these lengthy years, but she had also had the chance to train under numerous prominent theatrical masters, including E. Joy Chandra Singh and N. Tombi Singh. Elangbam traveled all over the nation to take part in theater competitions and festivals. She took home the Best Actress Award from the All-India Short Play Competition twice at the same event and was named the 2nd Best Actress.

In recognition of her noteworthy contribution to the field of Manipuri Theatre, Heisnam Ongbi Indu was honored with the Manipur State Kala Akademie Award. Elangbam was also honored with Natya Bhushan by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal.
