When she was a baby, her parents moved to Lahore due to Indo-Pak separation. She did her schooling in Lahore. She is a graduate in English Literature. She was always interested in theater and would be a part of performing arts in school and college. Initially, she worked as a teacher in school but due to her passion and interest in acting she shifted her career in theater. She was a part of a theater group and her and gave her first performance in a stage play with the theater group. In 1964, she was invited to a live TV Show named “University Magazine.” The theme of the show was to interact with college students and to know about their experience. During this time she was noticed by a PTV director and offered her to be a part of a television series. Initially, Shamim hesitated but later said yes for the role. She was first seen in the drama series ‘’Alif Noon’’ in which she played the role of a young student which was very much appreciated by the audience.
