This story is about an incident which transpired in the director Balaji Tharaneetharan’s life. This film is also about how friendship is important in life, and how genuine friends give their all to get their friend’s life back on track. This movie has no major stars, no major production houses and no over the top songs. But it doesn’t need them as the film still does excellently well in portraying these real life events.

Plot: This movie takes us into the life of four friends viz. Premkumar (Vijay Sethupathy), Baks (Baghvathy Perumal), Balaji (Rajakumar) and Saras (Vighneshwaran). Vijay is about to get married, and as the friends have plenty of free time, they decide to play a game of cricket. While playing, Vijay suffers an injury, and to the shock of the three friends, he loses his recent memory. He can recognize his friends, but he doesn’t remember that he is about to get married, worse still, he doesn’t even remember his girlfriend Dhanalaxmi (Gayathri). His friends panic, afraid to tell this to Vijay’s parents they try to hide this in the hope that his memory returns. This results in a series of hilarious scenes, will Vijay regain his memory? Will he get married?

Analysis: This movie offers a humorous take on Balaji’s real life story. The flick’s first half is splendid as its very direct and sets up the story beautifully. The casting has been brilliant. Gayathri who has a very short but powerful role delivers brilliantly. Vijay’s performance, especially when he has lost his memory, is stupendous and is well supported by Rajkumar, Bhagavathy (who plays himself) and Vigneshwaran. S. Ved Shankar’s (An alumni of AR Rahman’s music school) music is superb, the background score by Siddharth Vipin is also pretty good.

Star Performances: The real star of this movie has to be Vijay, who’s dialogue and expressions are perfect. C. Premkumar (in charge of the camera crew) has also done a good job and captured the director’s intention aptly. Baghvathy, Balaji, and Saras have done a fantastic job, providing brilliant expression to the chaos around them. The comradery between the friends seems very natural and you don’t realize that you are watching a movie.

What’s there?

• Superb performances by the entire cast.

• The true meaning of friendship is portrayed perfectly.

• The climax is brilliant.

• There are no random songs.

What’s not there?

• The second half is very slow; this is somewhat of a dampener considering the first half was very fast paced and straightforward.

• Some situations seem unrealistic as this is a true story.

• Some dialogues are repetitive.

Verdict: This movie is a must watch as it offers a different type of comedy. No unnecessary slapstick, no extraneous songs and best of all it never looks like it is trying to make us laugh, it is just situationally hilarious.
