We have heard about doping among players in the field of sports.  The Program Click to look into! >> Read More...  is one such film. Let’s read further to see what the movie has in store for us.

Plot

Lance Armstrong was surely an intriguing person. He tasted the full glory of success; people became ardent admirers of him, but finally what happened? This man had a dubious life of being a fraud. Again,  this man was not the one to give up since he thought that he was innocent; probably the problem was with the system itself. The movie The Program takes us to the last years of this enigmatic man’s career. In fact, Armstrong won the Tour De France cycling title  seven times. David Walsh, a journalist, tries his best to expose the doping controversy of Armstrong.

Star Performances

Ben Foster, playing the role of Lance Armstrong, has given a stellar performance; his body language and accent deserves special mention. His eyes depict the mentality of a person who is on the constant lookout for victory. As the determined man who would want nothing but to win, Foster impresses us; eventually, the audience also empathizes with him.

Analysis

Armstrong was the one who was found doping. But what about the others? In the film, we get to know that there are a lot of other sportsmen who escape without being checked or prosecuted.
Director Stephen Frears has produced some great films, and The Program has the class of such films. However, he could have given us a more profound understanding of Armstrong’s personal life.

What’s there?

  • The diverse soundtrack adds lustre to the movie.
  • The cinematography of Danny Cohen aptly shows the cycling of Armstrong.
  • The music of Alex Heffe gives the movie the much-needed tension.

What’s not there?

  • For the uninitiated the movie will prove to be knowledgeable but those who already know about Armstrong  may not get to see more than what they already know about him.
  • Script by John Hedge could have been written in such a way that it surpass the expectations. Alex Gibney’s documentary, The Armstrong Lie Click to look into! >> Read More... of 2013, gave more insight into the life of Armstrong, who was hell bent on being a winner.

Verdict

Watch The Program to get some insight into what is exactly happening in the arena of sports today.
