It’s a story of a young Roman soldier who is trying hard to achieve his father’s honor by finding his lost Golden emblem. Planted on the book of the same title, which was a best-seller, the director tires his best to portraying it.

Plot-

In AD 140, Ninth Legion disappeared in the north of Britain. After twenty years, a young Roman man, Marcus Aquila ( Channing Tatum Born in a small town called Cullman in Alabama, Ch >> Read More... ), comes to solve the mystery, and restore the reputation and honor of his father.

Marcus heard the rumor about the eagle standard seen in the north of Britain, and he decides to recover it despite the warning of his father and friends. Marcus is accompanied by his slave, Esca ( Jamie Bell Jamie Bell was born on 14th March 1986 in England. >> Read More... ). After several weeks of traveling, they encounter Guerin, one of the survivors of the Ninth Legion.

They further tour, because they want Seal people to find them. Tribe welcomed Esca and she introduced Marcus as a slave. Both managed to kill them, steal the young son of the Prince, and escape from the village. They then flee to the south, where they fought against the Seal people, and defeated them. They then hand over the eagle to the government of Londinium. Marcus and Esca, along with their other fellow Roman friend, return to Rome.

Analysis-

This movie has some decent battles, but the action is slick. The portrayal of the tribe is a bit too heavy, that much was not needed in the film. But yes, the direction and choreography was pleasant in the movie.

Star performances-

Not so good actor, Tatum, got a little cheesy, though there was improvement in his role. Bell in supporting role did quite well.

What’s there-

Sword fighting sequences were quite good. Location and set gave the actual feeling of 140 A.D.

What’s not there-

As a viewer; we are keen to see the new things in the movie, something innovative, which can entirely change the mood. You cannot expect such things in this picture.

Verdict-

Only people who are interested in knowing history will go and watch this film.
