Actress Subbalakshmi is extremely popular among the Kerala audiences as a loving grandmother. Her signature toothless smile has won her many fans. Subbalakshmi is a gifted singer and started her career as a music teacher. She was also a part of AIR (All India Radio). Subbalakshmi’s husband was Kalyana Krishnan and she has a daughter Tara Kalyan. Tara is a very prominent dancer and actress. It was Tara who first entered the tinsel town. Tara is married to Raja Ram and they have a daughter named Saubhagya. The family runs dance schools at Trivandrum and Cochin.

Subbalakshmi started her acting career quite late. But she has made a mark and is now a much sought after actress for supporting and family roles. Her first movie was Nandanam. Nandanam became a huge box office success and Subbalakshmi’s role was very well received. She has also worked as a play back singer for the movie Marykku Undu Oru Kunju Aadu. Subbalakshmi played very important roles in many TV serials like Kudumbapuranam, Svapna Koodu, Velankani Mathavu, Sree Guruvayur Appan, Bhagya lekshmi, Kunji Kunan Kudumpa Sametam Mani Kuty , Ayirathil Oruvall, and Surya Kaaladi etc.

She is currently seen as a grandmother is the serial Njangal Sathusthar Aanu, telecasted by Asianet Plus channel. This is a comedy serial which portrays the day to day affairs in a family. Subbalakshmi is also essaying a supporting role for the serial Aniyathi, telecasted by Mazhavil Manorama channel. Aniyathi is a family drama which unfolds the close bonding of two sisters, Gauri and Gayatri.
