There goes a saying that laughter is the best medicine and who better than comedians can tickle your funny bone. Jay Leno, whose full name is James Douglas Muir "Jay" Leno, is a TV host, actor, philanthropist, and a comedian of American descent.

Jay's mother, Catherine, was a homemaker while his father, Angelo, worked for an insurance firm. Besides his parents, Jay's family consists of a brother named Patrick, who was a veteran of Vietnam War and an attorney.

He grew up in the bylanes of Andover, Massachusetts. Jay went to Andover High School and Emerson College. He has a speech therapy degree. While studying in college, in 1973, Jay established a comedy club. It was Lennie Sogoloff who gave him his first break.

He started his career by doing inconsequential roles in movies and TV shows like Fun with Dick and Jane, Good Times, and Holmes & Yo-Yo. On March 2, 1977, people saw Jay on The Tonight Show for the first time, and it became a poignant moment of his life.

He has enacted and voiced several characters in What's Up, Hideous Sun Demon, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story, Mickey and the Roadster Racers, The Sinbad Show, Unstable Fables: Tortoise vs. Hare, and much more. In 1992, he became a permanent host of The Tonight Show. The relationship between The Tonight Show and Jay had its share of ups and downs.

He is Leading with My Chin's author as well. Jay won the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and Hasty Pudding Man of the Year in 2011 and 2014 respectively and is the recipient of Primetime Emmy Awards, TV Guide Awards, and People's Choice Awards.

He is extremely fond of cars and has a humongous collection of it which includes Duesenberg Model X, Chrysler Turbine Cars, and much more. Jay is the grand marshal of a motorcycle charity event named Love Ride. In 1980, he married Mavis Leno, a philanthropist.

Jay is also a patient of dyslexia and takes rest for only four to five hours. He and Mavis have donated one hundred thousand dollars to the campaign of Feminist Majority Foundation, which aims to empower Afghanistan women and spread awareness about their condition to the world.

In fact, Mavis is one of Feminist Majority Foundation's board member too. Jay also financed Salem State College's scholarship fund in 2009.
