Prahlad Singh Mehra was born on 4 January 1971 in Munsiyari Tehsil Chami, Bhainskot of Pithoragarh district. He was born to Hem Singh and Lali Devi. He had a fondness for singing and playing musical instruments since his childhood. He was a talented singer and had a solid command on his skills. This made him earn a place in the hearts of the people and people were crazy about his music. He lent his voice to various Pahari songs taking Uttarakhand music industry to new heights.

He had a very typical mountain face and a unique Pahari style of singing, which became his identity. He added his Pahari style to all his songs through which he made a place in hearts of the common people. Prahlad had worked so hard to uplift the Kamouni music through his contributions. People loved him so much that from kids to elderly people, everyone called him ‘Prahlad Da.’ Some of his prominent works include Aija Myara Dhanpura, Jalebi ko Daab, Rangbhang, Pahad ki Cheli Le Dwee Rawata Kabhe na Khaaya, Kamaouni ki Ladki and many others.

He has sung more than 100 songs. By lending his voice to such beautiful songs, he became the senior star singer of the Uttarakhand music industry. He has won the Uttarakhand State Award for best singer and Kamouni Ratan Samman. Prahlad had always supported the folk artists of the lower class. He provided a respectable platform to their work and helped them in pursuing music. Unfortunately, Prahlad Mehra passed away in a private hospital in Haldwani. He passed away on 10 April 2024 at the age of 53 due to a heart attack. Prahlad has left footprints that will never fade and an ever-lasting impact on the people and the Uttarakhand music industry.
