Frank Fernand, also known as Franklin Fernandes Bio coming soon... >> Read More... , was a Konkani Filmmaker and Musician from Curchorem, Goa. He was born Franklin Fernandes on May 3rd, 1919. He is one of the pioneers of Konkani Cinema. Amchem Noxib and Nirmon are notable films by Frank Fernand. He mastered violin and trumpet under Diego Rodrigues. After this, he moved to Bombay in 1936, playing music alongside George Theodore at the Green’s Hotel and Taj Mahal Hotel. He decided to move to Mussoorie in 1942, where he started playing music with Rudy Cotton in Mussoorie and became an excellent jazz musician. He began finding ways to merge jazz with Indian music after hearing Mahatma Gandhi’s Lecture. Later he returned to Mumbai in 1946 and began performing with Mickey Correa and his band. He also played an essential role in introducing Jazz to India. His career took after he joined the Indian musician duo Shankar-Jaikishan, ; their first project together was Raj Kapoor’s Barsat.

He also composed music for a Konkani film called Mhoji Ghorkarn. Amchem Noxib was a compelling film that he produced under Frank’s film to express his love for his mother tongue. After his success in the Konkani cinema, he decided to make a Hindi film called Priya, which was released in 1965 with Kalyanji-Anandji composing the music for his film. This movie was not financially successful. His last project was a movie called Ahat, which was never released. He won the Bombay Journal Award for setting music to Fulam Zai and Sobit Amchem Goem, by Dr. Manohar Sardesai. Frank Fernand died on April 1st, 2007, due to Parkinson’s disease.
