Shadi Lal Koul is a comedian, actor, and television presenter born on 4th January 1954 in a Kashmiri family in Chotta Bazar, Srinagar. His parents are Chana Koul and Satyawati Koul. He studied in Boys high school R N Mandir till 10th grade. He completed his graduation from Amar Singh College. He is married to Lalita Koul. His career began with the play ‘Yi Janam Ti Janam’ directed by Jai Kishan Zutshi. He received his first best actor award for the play ‘Tassruf’ in 1975.

He also appeared in plays like Tratte Buzun, Laash Ghar, Dastar, Cactus, Guributh, Local Taxes Extra, Ye zanam su zanam, Machama, Tasruff, Out of Date, Zaher, Bi chaddath ni, Zalur, and Premnath vs Premnath Some of his hit television series are Rangan Heund Rang, Cherry Treuch, Ghulam Begum Baadshah, Tijarratuk Aasan Tarikaa, Gaash Innuss Taam, Rustam Gota, Aadam Zaat, Pagah Sholi Duniya, Jatti Wanai, Pazar Yli Mood, Halyan Banan Wukir Thana, Gash Pholnas Taam, Trate Buzun, Naav Dar Aab, Yeli Tohiy Badliv Teli Soocho, Wazir-e- Nazar Guzar and Amaar.

Shadi Lal Koul (January 4, 1954 – July 12, 2020) was a Kashmiri actor known for his comedy roles. He is famous for slogans like "Begum salal tche kyazi goye malal", "gonaye wanye chakha bonaye", "Chaki pechni rass Yass poshi ta tass". He started his career in 1974 and has acted in more than four hundred Kashmiri serials and Kashmiri dramas. His talent and success have earned him the unofficial title of "King of Comedy." Shadi was born to a Kashmiri family in Srinagar's Chhota Bazar. His father was a businessman. Shadi learned the unique art of comedy in the Chota Bazar area of Srinagar.

He is the family's eldest son and has a sister and three brothers. Shadi Lal Koul studied up to 10th standard in R.N Mandir Boys High School. He graduated from Amar Singh College. After graduation, he developed his career as an actor. His first play was Yi Janam Ti Su Janam,  directed by Jai Kishan Zutshi. In 1975 actor he won his first Best Actor award. Shadi Lal Koul was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2016 and underwent treatment. Shadi Lal is the recipient of many awards including the Jhelum Arts Media Award, the J&K Sadiq Memorial Award, Jammu Kashmir Film Producers and Artists Partnership Ltd., Kashmir Education Culture and Science Society, New Delhi, J&K Gaurav Samman, J&K National Award, Harmony.
