She was born on 27 August 1963 in the city of Chennai. Her family was native Telugu and settled in Chennai. She won the Andhra Pradesh beauty contest in 1979, which paved a path for her entry into films. She started acting at an age of fifteen. Her debut film was instead a Tamil movie ‘Thisai Maariya Paravaigal’, for which she was confessed Best New Face Award.
She gained much popularity in Malayalam cinema; she married Kannada Actor turned politician 'Ambareesh' on 8 December 1991, couple has a son named Abishek. They both acted as lead roles in some Kannada movies, one of which received national award. She acted in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Kannada. She is fluent in six Languages. ...
