1. Mahathi
Mahathi is an Indian musician, born on 10 February 1985 in Chennai into a family of musicians. While her father, Thiruvaiyaru Sekar, is a former Carnatic vocalist, her mother, Vasanthi Sekhar, was a flute player. She completed her schooling from Cochin and graduated from Meenakshi College, Kodambakkam with a bachelor’s degree in English literature. With music running in her blood, it was no surprise to discover a child prodigy in Mahathi. When she was just one and a half-year-old, she started identifying the Carnatic Ragas, and by the time she was three, she could identify seventy-five of them. She got her initial training from her parents, as well as from Deepa and Gayatri at Thiruvananthapuram. Further, Sri O S Thiagarajan, Padmabhushan Chevalier Dr.M. Balamuralikrishna, and Padmabhushan T. N. Seshagopalan provided for her formal training. The talented prodigy was not kept hidden and in 1994, she received a scholarship from the Central government. Mahathi began performing at concerts when she was just ten.
