Rajesh Puri is a versatile Indian television actor and a product of National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi through Nadira Zaheer Babbar. For more than 30 years of being an actor, he already achieved 130 films and 70 tele-serials. Rajesh also appeared in many commercials including Cherry Blossom.
He started his acting career as Kamdar, the Assistant Editor in the 1983 Hindi film, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro by Kundan Shah. In 1990, he played as Pandit in Aamir Khan’s starrer film, Dil which also stars Madhuri Dixit. Later, h acted as the P.A. of Dharamchand (played by Anupam Kher) in the romantic drama film, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin by Mahesh Bhatt. Rajesh has donned several Hindi films with actor and producer Alok Nath including Ab Ayega Mazaa in 1984, Agnee in 1988, Pati Parmeshwar, Suryaa: An Awakening and Joshilaay in 1989, Kasam Teri Kasam in 1993, Jai Vikraanta in 1995, Aaghaaz in 2000 and Bhola in Bollywood in 2004. He also acted with actress Raveena Tandon in films like Dilwale in 1994, Barood in 1998, Gair in 1999 and Agni – The Fire in year 2013. He also played a pivotal role in the 2008 fantasy comedy film, God Tussi Great Ho along with the India’s biggest personalities like Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan. Rajesh was also seen in the Punjabi romantic comedy film, Power Cut under the direction of the late Jaspal Bhatti in 2012.
He was known for his performance on Doordarshan’s Yeh Duniyan Gazab Ki during the 80s and in the historical drama series, Amrapali in 2002. The actor was also known for his portrayal as Lalit Prasad or Lalloo, the unemployed eldest son of Basesar Ram (played by Vinod Nagpal) and Bhagwanti (played by Joyshri Arora) on Doordarshan’s Hum Log in 1984. Rajesh was also part of Rameh Sippy and Jyoti’s drama series, Buniyaad in 1986. Rajesh also made an episodic as a Public Prosecutor in the courtroom drama series, Adaalat on Sony TV. He also joined the casts of the romantic comedy soap, Rang Badalti Odhani as the NRI husband of Sasha (played by Manini Mishra) in 2011. In the same year, he bagged the role of Rajesh Singh Khanna on Sony TV’s Parvarrish – Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi. He was also notably remembered for his portrayal in the television series, Sonu Sweety. Rajesh has donned another episodic where he played as a scientist in the weekly crime-based series, Hum Ne Li Hai…Shapath on Life OK in 2013. He was also roped in to do play as the Lala in the village in the drama show, Bandhan on Zee TV in 2014.
In 2006, Rajesh has also proven his talent not as an actor but as a brilliant director as he ventures in directing television serial. He started off with UTV’s Sohni Mahiwal which stars Varun Badola and Shweta Kawatra. Being one of the founders of the Hindi theatre group, Ekjute, Rajesh has done more than 5,000 performances in over 250 stage plays. He is usually busy on theatre rather than doing films. Rajesh acted in Sanjay Srinivas play entitled, Chaplin In Love. He also played as the bubbly and innocent in the play, Tere Ghar Ke Samne which was held at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan in 2012. In 2013, the brilliant actor received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his great contributions in theatre, television and films which was given by the Education Today Foundation.
