Neesha Singh is an Indian actress who featured prominently in the early 80s’. She participated in the different form of arts before joining the world of films and television serials. She got her first cinema experience in Sagar Sarhadi’s Bazaar. The movie featured critically-acclaimed thespians such as Naseeruddin Shah, Farooq Shaikh, Supriya Pathak, and Smita Patil. Bazaar highlighted the immoral act of “bride buying” in the country. For those who do not know about this issue, poor and needy parents sell off their girl children to affluent fraternity living in the nation and abroad.

2. Kitu Gidwani

Kitu Gidwani is a model and an actress from India. She was born on October 22, 1967 at Mumbai, India from a Sindhi household who moved to Pakistan after the India’s Partition. They reside in a refugee camp located in Worli in Mumbai. Kitu made her schooling at the Fort Convent School, Mumbai. During her post graduation in college, she became interested in French language and she started to perform in French plays. Later, she also performed in English plays under the direction of Janak Toprani. Then she made her way to the television industry and acted in 1987 French movie, Black where she appeared as a Brazilian native. 

Kitu doesn’t have any formal training in acting. But she has an amazing collection to her credit. She was into theatre, television and film. Theatre became her training ground and she got the chance to work with brilliant artists like Vikram Kapadia. Kitu was never married and she promised that she will never settle down due to the danger of quest on what she calls, the Duende; a hunt for harmony with various supernatural characteristics of the living and the nature. 

Kitu was debuted as a television actress in the 1984 serial, Trishna. Some of her remarkable performances in television from 80’s to 90’s are Air Hostess, Junoon and Swabhimaan. She was recognized by many audiences after doing an intimate kissing scene with her Junoon’s co-star, Raj Zutshi. Aside from the shows Swabhimaan and Junnon, she is also doing the serials Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum and Saahil. Then she was seen in the Hindi serials, Kaashish and Kulvadhu. 

She started her venture in the big screen in the 1992 film, Rukhmavati Ki Haveli. She also essayed the role of Pallavi, a promising classical singer who fights to bring her voice back when she loses her mother who is also her mentor in the Hindi film, Dance of the Wind in 1997. Her character gained her the Best Actress Award in the Three Continents Festival in Nantes, France. She played as Lajma in Karvaan (Shadows in the Dark) in 1997. Lajma is a middle-aged woman who resides in Pakistan. Then she did small roles in the romantic film, Student of the Year in 2012, Dhobi Ghat in 2011 and Fashion in 2008. She was also bagged in to play the role of a traditional Parsi woman in the play, Sock ‘Em With Honey. 

Kitu also did films like Holi in 1984, Janam and Wisdom Tree in 1985, The Khajuraho and Rukmavati Ki Haveli in 1991, Tehkikaat in 1994, Shaktimaan and Earth in 1998, Abhay and Happily ever After in 2001 and many more.

3. Shriram Lagoo

Dr. Shriram Lagoo is an Indian actor who is known for being a character-specific or a method-actor. Lagoo originally from Satara completed his formal education at Fergusson College and graduated from the B.J.Medical College. He discovered his passion for drama and the theater during his college days, and joined Bhalba Kelkar’s “Progressive Dramatic Association.” Kelkar, a senior student at the same college Lagoo, attended, shared his like-mindedness, and penchant for acting. Later on, Lagoo pursued further specialization in his education field by taking up a course in ENT in Mumbai. He practiced medicine in Pune, Mumbai, and also continued training in various courses abroad. In the year 1969, Lagoo made his theater debut with the Marathi stage play “Ithe Oshalala Mrityu,” thus switching his mainstream profession into acting. He also worked briefly with Rangayaan, a theater company in Mumbai. Lagoo is renowned for his lead role in the well-known Marathi play “Natasamrat,” scripted by Kusumagraj.

4. Shekhar Kapur

Shekhar Kapur is a renowned Indian actor, director, and producer.He was born on 6 December 1945, in Lahore, which was then part of British India. His father, Kulbhushan Kapur, was an eminent doctor. His mother was Sheela Kanta Kapoor, who was the sister of actor Dev Anand. Shekhar was the only son of his parents. He also had three sisters. Shekhar went to school at the Modern School in New Delhi and later studied Economics at the prestigious St. Stephen’s College. When he was of 22 years, he became a Chartered Accountant with ICAEW in England. In the starting of his career Shekhar worked for big Oil Company, then he moved to the UK in 1970 and spent few years working as a consultant. Shekhar started his acting career in the 1975 Bollywood movie ‘Jaan Hazir Hai’ and ‘Toote Khilone’.

5. Benjamin Gilani

Benjamin Gilani born on November 20, 1946, is a versatile and noted actor who has acted in theatres, TV serials and both in commercial and parallel cinemas. He was born and raised in Delhi, India. Benjamin Gilani studied English Literature from Delhi University and then went on to become a graduate from Films and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, India in the year 1972. Noted ace Bollywood actors Naseeruddin Shah and Tom Alter were also his batch mates in FTII and in the year 1977 this talented trio opened a theatre company named Motely Productions and also launched a play named Awaiting for Godota. After acting in few theatre for a time Benjamin Gilani started teaching English Literature at St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi. He juggled his career between teaching and acting. From late 70’s through the 80’s and 90’s actor Benjamin Gilani featured in a number of successful and critically acclaimed both commercial and parallel Hindi movies such as Pyaasa Dil, Mukti, Bhumika: The Role, Junoon, Kalyug, Meri Kahani, Pratibha, etc. He also went on to feature in TV shows mostly for Doordarshan channels like Bombay Meri Hain, Apna Jahan, Zindagi, Bhootnath, The Great Maratha, Rahaat, Junoon, Noor Jahan, and many more… Benjamin Gilani also starred in successful Hindi films like Mirch Masala, Waqt: Race against time, 8x10 Tasveer, etc. Recently, in the year 2013, Benjamin Gilani appeared in Hindi movies like Rising of the Zombie, Baromas, and Game and in the 2014 TV movie Sun silk Real FM. 6. Vinay Dhumale

In 1971-72, Vinay Dhumale began his career as a television producer at the age of 21. In 1979, he received the Janakinath Gaud Award for Outstanding Television Contribution in Indian Television for the first time. He produced nearly 200 features from all walks of life in India during his 7-year career as a producer on national television, with eminent personalities including V. Shantaram (Doyen of Indian films), Baba Amte (Eminent social worker), M. C. Chagla (Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court), Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Mallikarjun Mansoor, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Ustad All (All father figures of Indian classical music). He founded his own production company in 1981 and has since produced numerous TV soap operas and serials, including Apradhi Kaun? (India's first TV crime drama), Shodh (crime series), Mahanagar (India's first urban relationship drama), Upannyas, and Lokmanya (a seven-episode historical biopic on India's greatest freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak).
