”. It is notable that the film is a remake of the Taiwanese film, “Three Times”.
Plot:
The film revolves around Ruksar and Govind; Krish and Radha; and Javed and Aradhana. The difference in the plotline is the timeline. Ruksar and Govind meet, as fate destined them to, on a train headed to Bombay in the 1960’s. Ruksar has come to the big city, running away from her home with her best friend, to fulfill her dream of making it big in the movies. After a series of incidents that keeps meddling with their hearts by putting them together and pulling them apart, the story takes us to 2012 England, where we meet Radha and Krish. Krish, after breaking up with his girlfriend, Meera, meets Radha with the usual casual misunderstanding. After clearing the air, they become friends and spend the night roaming around the city. As love stories go, they are met with tribulations again, and Radha leaves Krish heartbroken. Then, the story whirls into 1910 Lahore, where we witness the story of Javed. Javed is the womanizer of the village, and is hopelessly smitten by Aradhana (Priyanka). He focuses all his attention on her. Javed ends up going to jail while protesting against the British, because Aradhana called him a coward, as previously he hid from the British, while watching her father get thrown into prison. Upon returning from prison, Javed finds that Aradhana is set to marry someone else.
Then, we witness the fated climax to all three love stories. Will Ruksar and Govind unite to give us the melody of love? Will the broken-hearted Radha stay broken hearted? How will Javed conquer his love?
Analysis:
The film is a light-hearted love story with Shahid and Priyanka complete in their element. The attempts to show different timelines have to be appreciated, but not applauded. The film’s music had a wide welcoming, which the film didn’t justify. The movie gives us the feeling of redundancy not once but thrice, which in a sense is ironic.
Star Performances:
Shahid and Priyanka have done justice to their roles, but even they couldn’t help this boat from sinking.
What’s there?
1. The music is a good aspect of the movie, upon release, the music was even received well among critics.
2. The leads, after a winning film together, attempted to bring us a roller coaster of a love story.
What’s not there?
1. The film fails to show three distinct eras.
2. The director could have done a better job in showing us a real love story, as the love portrayed seems too plastic.
