He sure seems to have fascination towards the different sides of women. The very poster of Calender Girls would show the exploitation faced by women in this modern society.

Plot:

The one-liner is: Five ambitious girls turn Calender Girls. But is time in favor of them?

The girls in this film are in the dreams of popularity, fame and the most needed care. What is it that they eventually get? This film has the similarity to other movies, but note, other Madhur Bhandarkar’s movies. The girls face distress, pain and what not, but they are just blank faced. Mita Vashist, who had done commendable jobs in films like Ghulam, overacts in this film. The dialogues don’t do anything to savor the film. With such an ambitious story, Madhur could have very well set a new benchmark, but somehow falters. Madhur Bhandarkar pitiably gropes in the dark. There are the typical elements of Madhur’s films, including glamor and sorrow, but with poor performances, the movie fails to strike the right chord. The girls just show their skin. Madhur Bhandarkar should have realized for the better after the colossal failure of the 2012 Kareena Kapoor starrer, Heroine, but all he does is a sheer blunder in this silly film.

The director comes as himself in one scene and one calendar girl hails him. Nothing to say about this. There is no rhythm in this flick. It only tries to tell the matter in an indirect manner, without coming to it straightly. Gender bias is at the peak in the film which shows that women with big dreams only deserve abuses. The wrong side of cricket is also dealt in this film. It’s indeed a pity that the five lasses don’t seem to gain the apathy of the audience.

Verdict: A plot which can work is not presented well. Good over evil (that too in the case of women) is a respectable virtue and should have treated properly.
