This is a Horror film directed by Mikael Hafstrom and based on the book, “The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist”. This book is also the reflection of a real life incidence.

Plot-

Michael Kovak (Colin O'Donoghue), disappointed from his past job as a mortician, decides to join a seminary. On his way to the completion of his course, he is spellbound by a lack of faith. He saw a girl hopelessly dying in a road accident, and he reluctantly performs the ritual to absolve her sin. This incident further makes his religious belief stronger. Seeing this, how calmly he handled the situation, Father Matthew (Toby Johns) tells Michael that he is called to be a priest, despite his resignation. Michael finally accepts after Father Matthew tells him that his scholarship might convert into student loan by the church if his immediate resignation stood.

He met Angeline ( Alice Braga Alice Braga is a Brazilian actress. She is known f >> Read More... ), who is also taking classes. Michael got to know that she is a reporter and came here to cover a story. He attends a session from Father Xavier (Ciaran Hind), who soon becomes aware of his skepticism. Father Xavier sends him to Father Lucas ( Anthony Hopkins “Freddy Krueger, Jason Vorhees, and Sadako Sofubi >> Read More... ), who is a renowned Jesuit exorcist. Michael met Father Lucas at his place and saw a patient, a sixteen-year-old pregnant girl. It was later revealed that she was raped by her father, which led to her possession. The girl’s condition gets worse because of her father and Michael admits her in the hospital. The Father performs another excursion, but couldn’t save her.

After her death, Father Lucas starts behaving strangely. Michael and Angeline find him outside the house. After all this, Michael decides to perform the excursion. He completes his practice and the demon leaves the father. After his successful practice, he leaves Rome and returns to the US.

Analysis-

Since the beginning, the movie is creepy, which is a good sign as it is a horror movie. This film features several strong performances. Though the story takes time to develop, it builds up to an exciting conclusion.

Star performances-

Both Anthony as Father Lucas and Colin as Michael are the relatable characters of the movie, and they performed that well. They were totally into the character.

What’s there-

A new angle of the faith and excursion is there, which made the movie more sensible.

What’s not there-

The film struggles in some of its intense scenes.

Verdict-

As a horror movie is supposed to create curiosity of what will happen next, this movie will give you the same feel.
