Plot

The film revolves around Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman to be a part of the United States Congress. She was America's first congresswoman. She was an influential leader and played a crucial role in America's civil history. The film showcases her struggles and hardships while working in male dominion. The film is a political drama showing Shirley fighting against misogyny and chauvinism with utter strength.

Star Performances

Regina King as Shirley Chisholm has done an exceptional job in portraying her role. She is fiery, confident and everything that takes to play such a critical and powerful role.Lance Reddick as Wesley McDonald "Mac" Holder is fantastic in his role and does absolute justice on screen. Terrence Howard as Arthur Hardwick Jr is fantastic on screen. All actors have given an excellent performance on screen.

Analysis

The film has a strong political gripping plot. Shirley was a pivotal figure in America's history, this is properly shown in the film. The lead actress Regina King does absolute justice to her role. But, the film lacks proper narration and character development. The characters fail to connect to the audience. The film focuses more on the events that curtail the important personality details from the characters. The film feels more like a summarized booklet of events rather than a touching biopic of such an influential politician like Shirley.
