Plot
Usnavi owns a convenience store in Washington Heights. One day an attorney tells Usnavi that his late father’s business is for sale and Usnavi dreams of buying that. Kevin’s daughter Nina who just returned from Stanford University worries about her tuition fee. She then meets the salon ladies, Daniela, Carla, and Cuca. Sonny who is Usnavi’s cousin wins a lottery ticket of $96,000 and everybody starts dreaming of what they would do if they had that money. Will Usnavi manage to get back the business? Will the neighborhood solve their problems?
Star Performance
Anthony Ramos did a great job as Usnavi. He perfectly showed the traits of the character such as his pride, hard work, etc. All the other actors and actresses were equally good in their roles.
Analysis
The movie gives us a message that what you do matters and you have to be proud of who you are. We also see a loving neighborhood where they constantly boost others and help in times of trouble.
What’s There?
• The film showed real-life challenges which were relatable.
• The LGBTQA+ representation was well included.
• The music was top notch.
What’s Not There?
• When compared to the original stage play the movie was a bit less entertaining.
• Some scenes were very long and boring which could be avoided.
Verdict
In the Heights is a feel-good musical film that is worth watching.
