It is scripted by Ken Cheng and Kate Angelo. Cinematography is executed by Joe Collins and edited by Steven Sprung. Plot

Joe Valencia, a comedian, struggling factor, and a single father, attends a gathering of his dysfunctional, quarrelsome, yet loving family. A series of tragedies and brawls occur with revelations of particular secrets. The film ends with a producer offering Joe a sitcom role centered around him and his family.

Analysis

Easter Sunday reflects on the realities of generational assimilation, but it never loses sight of the inherent humor that only family can expose. Koy does bring charisma to the table before the film eventually suffocates under its standard issue design. This is far from Jo Koy’s best work. If the movie had been infused with Koy’s humour and wit, it would have been a much better movie.

Star Performance

Jo Koy’s vibrant spirit leaves a lasting impression. He was the absolute star of the movie.

What’s There?

  • Culturally specific jokes and a cast of characters fall into the stereotype.
  • Koy’s charm and excellent stand-up

What’s Not There?

  • Typical sitcom-level clichés and plotting
  • Sloppy direction
  • A cartoonish and cliché plot

Verdict

‘Easter Sunday’ is nominally watchable, but a wasteland of unfocussed potential. It should’ve been made funnier and keener than the ultimate finished product.
