Burning Bodhi is a 2016 independent film directed by Matthew McDuffie. He is also the man who had penned down the story of the movie. Marshall Bear and Marj Ergas has jointly produced the movie.

Plot: Dylan and Bodhi were school friends who get separated when Dylan retaliates from New Mexico and move to America. After many days, Dylan gets to know through a social networking site that his beloved friend had died. He was suffering from Aneurysm. He immediately packs his bag and leaves for new Mexico to grieve for his friend. There he realizes that this act of his some other motives too. He gets the chance of meeting his old friends. The movie progresses further with intense emotion like guilty, love, forgiveness, etc. which keeps dwelling between the group of old friends.

Analysis: The film is an independent movie and the lack of high-end technology is clearly visible in the movie. It has a firm story but is resembling other movies in the same genre that have been released over the years. There is nothing new in the plot, and the film has nothing unique to offer the audience. The climax is also very predictable, and there is nothing new in the store. In the crucial shots, the director has failed to create an impact with his direction. The movie required more precise narration and improvement in the performances. However, music was a positive aspect of the movie, and it will soothe your mind. The mid section of the film is very slow, and it gets too difficult to handle.

Star performances: Landon Liboiron is in the lead role in the movie. He has just wasted a great opportunity to create a place for himself in the film. He needs to do more work on his skills to get established. The rest of the supporting crew is also average and does not give any hope to the audience.

The direction is well in the first thirty minutes but fails after that. The cinematography by David J. Myrick is, however, beautiful and saves the film from sinking into the hole. Ben Callahan has not justified his role of editor, and the film can be trimmed by ten minutes more.

What's there: The film has the sweet bonds of friendship which will touch the hearts of the youth. The intense emotions between long lost friends will brush the core of the audience. The cinematography is also well and keeps the movie on the line. The music is also a positive aspect of the movie.

What's not there: The movie lacks a unique story to attract the crowd. The editing is not up to the mark, and it gets draggy in the middle. The direction is also below average and needed some boost to lift the film. People who are expecting high-level performances will be disappointed.

Verdict: The movie as a whole is not much appealing, and it can be skipped.
