Rati Agnihotri

Rati Agnihotri is an Indian movie actress who has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi films. She was the discovery of Tamil director Bharathiraja.Hewas searching for a new face for his upcoming film Puthiya Vaarpugal (1979). The director met her father and promised the film would get completed in a month. Rathi was sixteen years old, and thus she made her break in film.

The film revolved around a village girl, and boy and the soulful music by Ilaiyaraaja made the film a chartbuster in the box office. Rathi’s effervescent look in the movie helped her to get more offers in Kollywood, and she became busy in the south. Bharathiraja offered her again another film 'Niram Maaratha Pookkal' and the film was against successful in the box-office. In just three years, she acted in 32 films, and she became star sensation in Kollywood. She also acted in Kannada and Telugu languages. In her career, she acted with superstars of South Indian cinema.

In 1981, she got an opportunity to make her debut In Hindi cinema opposite Kamal Hassan in K Balachander’s Hindi film ‘Ek Duuje Ke Liye’ (remake of Maro Chartithra). The film became super hit, and it was a launching pad for Rati to become an overnight star in Hindi movies. As Rati was a Punjabi, she signed more than a dozen Hindi films after Ek Duuje Ke Liye. The film was a hit. She then acted in over 43 films in the Hindi language with all top stars.

Her performance in films like Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye (1983) and Mazdoor (1983) fetched her appreciation from critics and masses. She was also signed to play Amitabh Bachchan’s leading lady in Coolie. She married business person Anil Virwani on 9 February 1985; They have a son too. But after 30 years, the couple filed divorce and got separated in 2015. Now she is seen playing mother’s role in many Hindi blockbuster movies. Rati was born in Mumbai on December 10, 1960.
